Just 24 hours after students of Tatari Ali Polytechnic went on rampage blocking the major busy Bauchi-Jos road for about 2 hours and demanded for the removal of the Rector of the institution, Dr Bala Adamu Azare, the state Governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar has ordered the immediate suspension of the Rector until full investigation is made.
Disclosing this to newsmen yesterday at the Government House, the state Head of Service, Mr. Abdon Dalla Gin stated that the Governor has directed that the Rector of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Dr Bala Adamu should proceed on suspension pending the outcome of investigation in to the 10 point demand made by the staff and students of the institution.
He said the suspension of the Rector followed students’ protest and the complexity of involvement in the Rector of the institution in the whole issue, hence the decision of the government to order the Rector to proceed on suspension to pave way for further investigation into the matter.
“It is sad that the protest has resulted in strike in the institution as both academic staff and students were affected, we invite all the parties – the management of the school, Academic Staff Union, and the students to wed in to the matter through dialogue and look in to the 10 point demand as we woke up on Tuesday to hear that students who also have stake at the point blocked the gate of the school and embarked of protest that led to blocking of the Bauchi-Jos highway,” he said.
He said that a high powered committee had been constituted to look into the grievances of the academic staff and the students of the institution with the aim of providing a lasting solution to the lingering problem.
The Rector, Dr Adamu was accused of mismanagement of funds and high handedness by the Academic Staff Union and students of the Polytechnic which led the students to embark on protest on Wednesday, calling for his removal.
