Governor Jonah David Jang of Plateau State in conjunction with Barkin Ladi Local Government Council has approved the conduct of Mass burial for 14 Boys and Girls brigade children who were killed by a fast speeding 504 station wagon at Tudun-Mazat in Barkin Ladi Local Government Council in the early hours of Saturday.
Governor Jang stated this when he paid a condolence visit to Tudun Mazat where he commiserated with the bereaved families.
The governor was accompanied by the senator representing Plateau North senatorial zone, Gyang N S Pwajok, Barkin Ladi/Ryom federal constituency member in the House of Representatives, Honourable Simon Mwatkong, state Assembly member for Barkin Ladi constituency, Honourable Keneng Gyang Fulani, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Edward Pwajok, and some other members of the State Executive Council.
Jang urged the families to accept the development as an act of God.
He also promised that at any cost, the state Ministry of Transport would immediately embark on the installation of road signs and warnings to guide motorists throughout the state.
Similarly, the governor noted that the administration of traffic regulations, including confirmation of road worthiness of vehicles has been compromised by corrupt practices of the officials, and announced
a plan by the state government to set up a task force to check vehicles for road worthiness, impound when necessary, service such vehicles, and get their owners to pay for such servicing before recovery.
He also called on the Federal Road Safety Corps to improve on their surveillance and road governance throughout the state to minimise the menace of reckless driving and drunken drivers who often times expose innocent passengers and other road users to avoidable accidents.
Jang and his entourage later visited survivors of the early morning tragedy who are receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital.
