Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has denied reports in some media that he has been begging Everton of England player, Victor ‘the beast’ Anichebe to play for the Super Eagles, even as ex-international, Henry Nwosu has backed Keshi not to beg anybody.
Keshi was reported to have been advised by some persons to travel to London to call Anichebe for the all-important World Cup cracker between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Flames of Malawi which comes up in Calabar on September 7, 2013.
Victor Anichebe has severally turned down recent invitations by Keshi to play for his father land, a move viewed in several quarters as being unhealthy for his international football credential. There were reports that Keshi should change his mind and go to Everton to woo Anichebe.
But the ‘Big Boss’ as Keshi is fondly called by fans and admirers alike, has told anybody who cares to listen that he will not go to London to see Anichebe neither would he beg any player to come and play for his father land.
“I never said anything like that, that I will go to London to beg Anichebe; any time he is ready let him come, this is his country, I might not be the one in charge tomorrow, someone else may be, but whenever he is ready to play we will accommodate him and bring him back to the national team”, Keshi said.
Nwosu, one of Nigerian players to play for the national team at a very tender age, urged Keshi to ignore any player who says he will not play for his fatherland, saying the country is bigger than one person.
