Court confirms Oba Ijan Ekiti

The Appeal Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital has affirmed the installation of Oba Samuel Fadahunsi, as the Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Government Area of the state.
The court while dismissing the appeal filed by the Afayagbekun and Arobiogbon ruling houses of Ogbon Omo quarters in Ijan Ekiti, the 3-man Appeal panel, led by Justice Moshood Oredola, said the selection and installation of Oba Fadahunsi, is legitimate and in line with the customs and tradition of the town.
In a unanimous Judgment on Wednesday, Justice Oredola also awarded a N50, 000.00 costs against the Appellants.
Justice Oredola, affirmed the decision of the lower Court delivered on November 28, 2008 by the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, which upheld the installation of the monarch and affirmed that he should continue to enjoy all the paraphernalia and privileges of that office.
The Appeal Court noted that both the oral and documentary evidence presented by the respondent, Oba Fadahunsi, were credible and had probative value, contrary to appellants’ claims.
According to him, based on the documents presented, the otutubiosun ruling house, was duly recognized by Ekiti State Chieftaincy Law as part of the ruling houses, saying the enthronement of Oba Fadahunsi as Onijan from that dynasty did not contravene any law.
Oba Fadahunsi, who was a United States based computer expert was installed Onijan on September 18, 2001 by the kingmakers , following the demise of Oba Adeyemo Obarinde in February 2000 and was confirmed by the then Otunba Niyi Adebayo-led Government by September 24, 2001.
In his response to the judgment, Oba Fadahunsi charged the appellants to embrace peace and join hands with him to bring development to the people of the community. The Oba said the judgments of the lower and the Appeal Court had confirmed that he is eligible to hold the position.
