Board warns intending Adamawa Pilgrims

Adamawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has said any intending pilgrim that fail to adhere strictly to the Yellow Card requirements and participate in Hajj lectures would not be allowed to travel for pilgrimage.
The Yellow Card or Carte Jaune as popularly referred to, is an International Certificate of Vaccination, ICV, and document for recording all travel immunizations.
Executive Secretary of the State Pilgrims Board, Alh.Salisu Danjuma Usman who restated that erring pilgrims would be punished, maintained that it was mandatory for all 2013 intending Hajj pilgrims to undergo pre-Hajj medical screening, noting that those who also fail to avail themselves during the series of lectures that will be sanctioned.
The move he said is to checkmate yellow fever infection from pilgrims coming from infected areas such as sub-saharan Africa and the Amazonian regions.
“Nigerian pilgrims have been underating the importance of the yellow card in the last two years but, Saudi Arabian authority have been administering the vaccine on every pilgrim that lands in the country.
“That may be because they have an idea that Nigerians have been violating the law,” he said.
Danjuma warned pilgrims against paying for the issuance of the card without actually being inoculated, saying some pilgrims were in the habit of doing that.
Reports say Saudi Arabia will not issue Hajj visas this year for elderly and people with chronic diseases in a bid to prevent the spread of the SARS-like Mers (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) corona virus during the upcoming pilgrimage.
