A Yoruba socio-cultural group, Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) has assured Nigerians that it will intervene in the crises between Hausa and Yoruba communities in Ibadan area of Oyo state with a view to review the situation that led to the breakdown of law and order in the area.
The Vice Chairman of the forum, Rev. Bolanle Gbonigi gave this assurance yesterday at a meeting of the forum held at the Efulyela hall, Ikenne, Ikenne local government
council area of Ogun State.
It would be recalled that there was commotion in Ibadan last Friday when Yoruba and Hausa traders clashed at Bodija Market, leaving at least five people injured while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
The Vice Chairman of the Forum while reacting to issues raised at the meeting explained that the leadership of the union will begin consultation with the Governors and elders in the region towards finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
Rev. Gbonigi explained that the forum was committed to protecting the rights and interest of Yoruba nation and Nigerians in particular as enshrined in the constitution adding that the matter will be resolved amicably.
He assured that, as a way of forestalling the cause of the crisis, the Yoruba are working day and night to be independent of any tribe in terms of any foodstuff production.
Meanwhile the Forum has also passed a vote of confidence on the Governors of the South West adding that they have performed to the expectation of the electorates.
