Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers state has warned a suspended lawmaker, Dr. Innocent Barikor, representing Gokana constituency in the state House of Assembly over comments he recently made in a press briefing in Port Harcourt over the today’s convention in Abuja.
Dr. Barikor during a press briefing had said: “the people of Rivers will remain in support of Governor Amaechi and so will not be attending the convention. The members of the Rivers state House of Assembly have resolved to boycott the convention on Saturday, August 31, at Abuja.”
In its reaction in Port Harcourt, the party said it was unfortunate that the suspended members of the State House of Assembly were yet to come to terms with the import of the National Assembly taking over their statutory functions.
According to the Special Adviser to the state chairman on media, Mr. Jerry Needam, the assumption of the legislative duties of the State House of Assembly by the National Assembly should leave no one in doubt that for now it is only the federal lawmakers that can lawfully represent the state in matters relating to laws and legislations.
Mr. Needam said :”any other thing that has to do with the interest of the lawmakers, and anyone that is yet to appreciate this fact can safely be said not to understand simple arithmetic of political divestiture,” described the spokesperson as not only ignorant of the law but also an impostor.
“This is what happens when people are compelled into taking actions against their will, the true import is usually dawned on such people later when it would have been too late”, the Party further noted
