Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, has lamented over the lacklustre attitude of civil servants in the state towards workshops.
Suswam, who made the lamentation at a workshop on International Public Sector Accounting Standards, IPSAS, organised by office of the State Accountant General, decried the attitude of the civil servants who he said do not take workshops seriously.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. David Salifu, he noted that the impact of workshops does not reflect on the governance of the state.
“It is sad that civil servants in the state do not take workshops seriously. As soon as the opening ceremony is done, they quickly leave and at the end, nothing is achieved,” the governor further lamented.
That notwithstanding, the governor said the policy of IPSAS would be adopted by the 23 local government areas of the state, adding that it will be internalised by all stakeholders in ensuring financial management and transparency.
The state commissioner for finance, Mr. Omadachi Oklobia, who was also at the event, noted that adopting IPSAS is strong and conclusive for management of public funds, reduction of corruption and for good governance of the state.
