Army restates commitment to nation’s security

Nigerian Army Au­thorities has said that it will do all it can to tackle secu­rity challenges in the country.

In a chat with newsmen, Brig. Gen. Pat Akem, the brigade commander, 4 mechanised brigade, Benin City said this at the end of a five-day refresher exercise tagged: “Crocodile Jaw” for troops in the 19 bat­talion Niquora Barracks, Ok­itipupa, Ondo State.

Represented by Col. Adeola Kalejaye, Chief of Army Staff of the Brigade, Gen. Akem, said that the army is read­ily equipped with logistics to combat contemporary security challenges in the country.

The commander added that the welfare of soldiers had also improved by the years in order to keep them abreast with their colleagues across the world in military tactics.

“The logistics and welfare in the army have gradually im­proved to combat insecurity and crimes in the country.

Officers’ educational level has also improved because we en­courage them to go for further studies and training to equip them for the task ahead,” he informed.

He added that in an effort to fully combat the contempo­rary insecurity problems in the country, the annual refresher training is being sponsor by the Nigerian Army Headquar­ters.

According to the commander, some of the objectives of Cro odile Jaw exercise included: to build good battle discipline in terms of individual and unit training, to teach and practice troop on fire control orders, to practice the importance of command and control in all in­ternal security operations and so on.

Other security operatives in the area who participated in the exercise which lasted be­tween September 2 and Sep­tember 6 included, the Nige­rian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC; Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC and Nigeria Police.
