he United Progressive Party, UPP, has strongly condemned the Boko Haram attack on the military base in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital in which dozens of people were killed.

It would be recalled that the suspected Boko Haram sect on Monday attacked a military base in Maiduguri forcing the military to impose a 24 hour curfew on the state capital.

In a press statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Ogbuehi Dike, described the attack as outrageous and provocative.

Dike called on Nigerians irrespective of political, religious and tribal affiliations to condemn the dastardly act that has challenged the awesome federal military might, saying this was the time to show patriotism in what we do.

“This is the time to stand up and be counted as patriotic Nigerians by rallying round the flag, the president and the military in efforts to protect and secure the territorial integrity of the nation and defeat the Boko Haram insurgency and all militant groups in the country,” he pointed out.

The publicity secretary paid glowing tributes to the Nigerian military and other security agencies, urging them to be decisive in discharging their constitutional responsibilities as security and welfare of the people is the primary purpose of government.

He, however, expressed confidence in the ability and capability of the military authorities to crush subversive elements in the country and enjoined security agencies to improve on their intelligence gathering so as to avoid further reprisal attack.

Dike urged Nigerians to assist security agents by providing useful information that will enable them to discharge their constitutional duties and bring the culprits to book.

He commiserated with the families that lost their loved ones in the attack, praying that God Almighty would comfort and strengthen them.
