Confab: Yoruba raise committee to harmonise position

rominent Yoruba leaders and socio-cultural organisations from the South-West have constituted a Committee to harmonise Yoruba position at the planned National Conference.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of Yoruba Obas and leaders of thought, Chief Olu Falae was picked as chairman of the committee with Gen. Alani Akinrinade as vice chairman, while Dr. Kunle  Olajide is the secretary.

The meeting was convened by Oba Okunade Sijuade, the Ooni of Ife, to deliberate on Yoruba position in the proposed dialogue.

It was attended by notable monarchs, prominent Yoruba leaders and most of socio-cultural organisation in the zone.

The communiqué, which was issued in Lagos by Mr. Yinka Odumakin on behalf of the participants, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure the conference gives Nigeria a structure conducive to stability, peace, unity and progress.

The meeting commended President Jonathan for initiating the process towards the convocation of the dialogue.

“We commend the President for his initiative for such a dialogue that will address the various challenges of nationhood facing Nigeria which have not been addressed in the last 53 years.

“We enjoin Yoruba people in the South-West states, parts of kwara, Kogi Edo, Delta and Niger as well as Yoruba in the Diaspora to fully participated in all processes leading to the conference.”

The communiqué, added that the leader’s participation in the meeting would enable Yoruba to realise the aspiration for their autonomy within a truly Federal Republic of Nigeria.
