Nigerian Bar Association NBA presidential election billed to hold today has suffered a setback, as two of the aspirants formally lodged complaints accusing the screening committee of compromising the process.

The aspirants, Mrs. Funke Adekoya (SAN) and Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) in their separate letters, declared that the screening committee members had been compromised, even before it commenced its work.

They said the committee could not be fair and impartial in its decision, making the process, which in all probability will be subject to voting by members of the committee.

Adekoya in her letter dated 20th February 2014, said: “Believing that I could not count on the impartiality and unbiased nature of the committee , upon appearing before it, I agreed to be screened on the basis of my CV and proposed programme for the Nigerian Bar Association which had been submitted to the two previous but aborted screening committees.

“All the members of the third screening  committee which now comprises all branch chairmen did not have these documents as the present committee was composed on the floor of the house.

“Accordingly, the screening committee adjourned to next Saturday 22nd February at the Ibadan Branch Bar Centre, Ibadan to consider the candidates interested in contesting the post of President of the Nigerian Bar Association on the basis of the CVs and manifestoes submitted by the candidates .”
