Following the reported outbreak of Ebola virus in some states of the federation, health workers in Ebonyi State, yesterday, called for immediate provision of necessary equipment should there be any case of outbreak of the virus in the state.
The head of Nursing Services Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, Mrs. Willyfred Ngozi Chukwu made this call shortly after the sensitisation programme of Ebola virus held at Women Development Centre.
Mrs. Chukwu who said nurses were ready to swing into action expressed dissatisfaction over the inability of government to provide necessary treatment facilities should there be any case of the outbreak in the state.
She maintained that Health workers in other states of the federation had been equipped with required facilities to fight the virus.
She noted that while she would sensitise her colleagues about the virus, she urged the government to immediately provide a quarantine centre maintaining that FETHA had no place to isolate victims should there be any case of outbreak.
On his part, the head of anti-natal clinic in FETHA, Matron Mba who corroborated the call said as the department which would be in charge of patients with the virus should there be any case, government should urgently provide protective garments, masks and other necessary equipment.
