Press centre gadget disappears at Presidential Lounge

It was a big shock for the aviation
journalists whose computer
laptops, cameras and
other working tools locked
up at the presidential lounge of
the Murtala Muhammed Airport,
Lagos, since February 2012
when they were displaced from
pick up their belongings.
After the long protocols by the
State Security Service, SSS, and
the Protocol Department of
the lounge, the journalists were
shocked that most of the laptops,
cameras and other working
tools kept at the press centre had
been stolen.

missing.
The discovery was made over
the weekend when the Protocol
Department of the lounge finally
granted the reporters under the
umbrella of League of Airport
and Aviation Correspondents,
LAAC, access to the premises to
Most of the laptops and cameras
that were captured in the inventory
taken in April 2012 were removed
from the centre.
The few that were left are the
ones either padlocked in bags or
too old. The LAAC members were
shocked that their gadgets could
be stolen in a highly secured place
like the VIP presidential lounge
Lagos.
One of the officials who spoke
on condition of anonymity
blamed it on the security officials
adding that it was their responsibility
to check everything going
out of the complex.
In his attempt to assuage the
feelings of the reporters, the head
of protocol, Mr. Afolabi Oduniyi
promised to look into the matter
and asked the journalists to send
the cost of the missing items to
his office.
It would be recalled that Journalists
were locked out of the
press centre at the presidential
wing of the Murtala Muhammed
Airport on February 5, 2012 for
undisclosed reasons. Since then
entreaties to the presidency and
the national security adviser to
re-open the media centre yielded
no result
