Edo House of Assembly yesterday approved the sack of the Chairman of Owan West local government council, Mr Godwin Aigbodion, who was suspended last month by the state Governor, Adams Oshiomhole.
The approval was sequel to the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Local Government on the commission of enquiry instituted by the governor into an alleged gross misconduct of Mr, Godwin Aigbodion.
The chairman of the committee, Mr Paul Ohonbamu, who is the member representing APC, Egor said the committee discovered that the suspended chairman lacked the, “basic skills of governance”.
Ohonbamu said the chairman was ignorant of the law establishing the local government, engaged in wanton financial recklessness, adding that the suspended chairman was incompetent.
The committee which recommended that the suspended chairman be relieved of his position, following his inability to exonerate himself from all allegations levied against him, also recommended that the vice chairman, Mrs Regina Okun, be confirmed and sworn in as substantive chairman of the council.
A third recommendation added by the member representing PDP Igueben, Mr Kingsley Ehigiamusor required that the Treasurer and Head of Service of the local government be suspended for three months for assisting the suspended chairman to defraud the council.
The Speaker, Uyi Igbe, therefore directed that copies of the resolution be sent to the Governor, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the suspended chairman and the local government service commission for immediate action.
Meanwhile, a bill for a law to make provision for the establishment of the Edo State College of Nursing and Midwifery and a bill for a law to make provision for the establishment of School of Midwifery, St. Philomena Catholic Hospital, Benin were passed.
Another bill for a law to establish the school of Midwifery, St. Camillus Hospital, Uromi was also passed on the floor of the House. All the schools have been in existence and operating for over four decades in their current locations.
